Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood. “This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration. “Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future without fear.” The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House. The pig, donated by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its top term for the year. A Peaceful Retirement This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement. “This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message. “It captures the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.” Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
