Shock as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation struggling with rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before running away.

The motive of the attack remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities said that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building near the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the site supervising the setup of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, as per local media.

"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement stated.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and clad in what looked like a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the assault.

Important clues, like cartridges, were discovered at the scene.

Officials are asking members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"We know they traveled on foot after the shooting, and investigators have been following their trail to establish their destination," stated a police chief.

Outpouring of Grief

His family member, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," were her words.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were ready to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She urged the community to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.

Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, supplying VIP protection services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in property management and assisted with building evictions.

His murder has caused national trauma and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the government and political parties.

A senior figure remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.

"He expressed his views boldly and honestly. He even challenged me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," was his tribute.

A party figurehead commented the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".

A media executive said that "Stock was far beyond a TV personality. He was a talented storyteller, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every performance. His artistic passion left an indefinable mark."

In a release, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, approachability and quick humor, adding that his influence "will endure".
