Arise, Sir David Beckham: Beckham Knighted by the Monarch at Windsor Castle Ceremony

The football icon received a honorary title at the historic royal residence on the weekday. The ex-national team leader, 50, was among those accepting honours for his contributions to athletics and philanthropy. In recent months, he expressed he was “immensely proud” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.

Football Career Highlights

Beckham made his Premier League debut for Manchester United in 1995 and was a key member that earned a thrilling Champions League final victory in the late nineties when they beat the German giants with two late goals.

In total, he scored 85 goals and garnered accolades including six Premier League titles and domestic cup wins as a footballer, before retiring from the sport in 2013. Alongside his football career, he has backed a variety of philanthropic initiatives, including serving as a goodwill ambassador for global aid group Unicef since the mid-2000s.

Charitable and Other Roles

In the previous year, the sports star, who has referred to himself as a “huge royalist”, was appointed an ambassador for the royal educational charity, an non-profit organization founded by the King in 1990. In 1998 he was declared most stylish man of the year by GQ magazine and he has posed for brands like the fashion retailer, the Italian designer, and Boss.

David married his wife Victoria in the turn of the millennium and the pair have a family of four kids together – Brooklyn, Romeo, the third child, and their daughter.
